Christmas is busy, noisy and full of food. A few general reminders (your vet is the best source of advice for your dog):
- Keep festive food out of reach. Chocolate, grapes, raisins and sultanas (think Christmas pudding and fruit mince), onions, garlic and cooked bones are commonly listed as unsafe for dogs.
- Brief your guests. Ask visitors not to slip the dog food from the table.
- Watch the wrapping. Ribbon, tinsel and packaging can be tempting to chew.
- Give them a quiet spot away from the crowd, with water.
Summer heat tips for dogs
- Walk early in the morning or later in the evening.
- Check the footpath with the back of your hand. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for paws.
- Always leave shade and plenty of fresh water, and never leave a dog in a parked car.
